During the morning our children engage in our Montessori Curriculum. The children develop independent skills through the use of our beautiful concrete materials under the direction of our kind and nurturing teachers.
Horizons has created an environment that fosters an enthusiasm and love of learning that should remain with our children throughout their lives.
During the afternoon programme our children will enjoy play time with their friends and will engage in many indoor and outdoor activities such as sport, drama, art, yoga and mindfulness.
This is a guide to a typical day in Full Day Child Care. The activities vary depending on weather and time of year.

maria montessori
self concept
Since opening in 1993 Horizons Montessori School has been nurturing children and directing them to develop to their individual ability in a Montessori environment that is true to the teachings of Maria Montessori.
The Montessori method of education, named after the Italian physician Maria Montessori, emphasises the importance of the development of self-concept.
She believed education to be a preparation for life, not a search for intellectual skills.
Through her own teachings and discoveries Maria Montessori learned that the mind of the young child is absorbent.
Therefore the environment should be prepared carefully to train senses, to stimulate curiosity, to satisfy the need to know and to protect the child from unnecessary failure.
The environment is set up as a bridge between the home and the wider world.
In early childhood, Montessori students learn through sensory-motor activities.
Working with materials that develop their cognitive powers through direct experience and use of all their senses.
Children move from the concrete to the abstract.
Developing at their own individual pace.
healthy
whole foods
Horizons understand the importance of good nutrition for a child’s physical and mental development.
For children who avail of any of our full day services in Montessori or Summer Camp, as well as Homework Club attendees, the meals are provided by Little Dinners.
They are healthy meals provided by a specialist manufacturer based in Wicklow.
Little Dinners have created over 30 basic recipes, with variations for vegetarians and other special dietary requirements.
This results in a menu which provides providing the children with a balance of variety and familiarity.
We use Little Dinners because of their high standards when it comes to food preparation following the Dept. of Health “Food and Nutritional Guidelines for Pre-School Services”.
Special requirements based on parental preference, cultural or religious beliefs and health or allergy issues are catered for.
FOR PARENTS
FOR CHILDREN
At Horizons, as parents ourselves in our Montessori school, we understand what’s important to you, because it is also what’s important to us…
The founding Fiona's still work in the schools every day. This ensures that the educational experience of every child is managed to the same high standards every year.
We have strict procedures in place when it comes to child safety and security. Our staff are regularly trained on site regarding all aspects of prioritising your childs well being.
Our schools are open all year round ensuring child care availability for you beyond the ECCE or Primary School calendar. Our Summer Camp also runs during July and August.
Both our schools have soft Astro grass gardens which the children love. Weather permitting we spend as much time outdoors as possible to enhance the pupils experience.
Working parents can rest assured their child is availing of the best of care all day. And once they get to Primary we also have an after school care service.
We invest a lot of time in sourcing the best teachers. We ensure they have ongoing educational and development opportunities resulting in the optimum environment.
We collect children from the local national schools St. Pius, Presentation and St. Joseph's. In our Homework Club in Terenure College they have dinner, homework and activities.
From classical music to science experiments. Your child will be well socialised with a diverse range of materials and experiences creating a love of learning for life.
Our educational ethos is based on that of Maria Montessori who believed in preparing a child centred environment to learn independently through discovery and exploration.
